“The best-kept secret of recent crime novels”

" What a riveting series of novels from a superb writer. Intrigue, drama,  humor, clever plots, exacting attention to detail, they have it all.  I anxiously await the next volume."

GUS MEIJER HAS THE FORMULA

From Austria to Australia, Newfoundland to New Mexico, readers from around the globe have become enamored with the Brick North Mysteries. Plots that grab and won't let go. Characters you'll fall in love with. Books you won't be able to put down.

Sleazy bars, boudoirs, and hidden scars

The World of Brick North

It's 1957. North lives and works in a mid-sized city that lies on the border of the fruit and rust belts in Southwest Michigan. LaSalle Harbor is a manufacturing city that relies heavily upon the tourists who seek out the white sandy shores and moderate climate of the Lake Michigan coast. Like most small and mid-sized towns, there is graft and corruption among many of those who aspire to be seen as upstanding citizens, as well as crime among the poor and outcast. North stands against corruption and for those who have no voice.

Brick, a contraction of his seldom-used first name, Brian, and his middle name, Richard or Rick, is a tenacious and honest individual. As the lead detective of the LaSalle Harbor PD, he has come to learn that others are far more cavalier in their approach to honesty than he is.

Just a dozen years after the end of the fighting, North carries the scars and nightmares of World War II. Like other Vets of that era, those nightmares are borne in silence. Throughout the series, we see more and more of the memories that trouble him and his slow realization of his problems.

In the time before cellphones, DNA testing, and modern forensic science, there was Brick North.

About the Author

Augustine (Gus) Meijer was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, in the late 1950s. To say that he's led an eclectic life would be an understatement. Over the years, he has worked for a funeral home, studied and was employed as a gemologist, was the vice president of a national retail firm, became an ordained minister, and served as a hospital chaplain. Meijer is known for both a gentle heart and a sarcastic wit. After having lived and worked throughout the United States, he and his wife settled in the desert Southwest.  Most recently, he served as Head Chaplain for the 1,000-member Albuquerque police department.
